Zambia: Australia Awards: Regional Leadership Workshop

A two-day regional leadership workshop for Australia Awards alumni was held in Lusaka, Zambia on 25-26 February. The workshop brought together 31 African alumni in leadership positions to discuss ways in which they could effectively fulfil their roles and consequently drive sustainable change in their organisations and countries.

The workshop was facilitated by Neil Paulsen, Associate Professor at the  University of Queensland Business School.  It addressed a variety of issues including the challenges and opportunities associated with leadership in Africa and how to overcome gender-related barriers to create more inclusive leadership. At the end of the workshop the alumni were tasked to complete individual work plans outlining a strategy to help them achieve their leadership goals.

Coinciding with the workshop was a networking function organised by the Australian High Commission to Zambia. The aim of the event was to help create stronger ties between alumni across the region. Workshop participants mingled with Zambian alumni, representatives from the Zambian government and 2016 Malawian and Zambian Australia Award recipients, who were in town for their pre-departure briefing
